HEY KIDS! WELCOME!

Miraculous!

Water to Wine

We are discovering the miracles of Jesus, but also how we can experience miracles in our lives still today!

Dads, Moms, Kids - use this page together to review or further explore what was learned at church, or if you weren't able to get to church today, then you can learn and live it out at home! After all, the Church is wherever you are! LET'S GO!

DISCUSS IT!

Here are a few discussion questions to get started. There are no right or wrong answers. Just share what you think, and then work your way down the page learning together!
  • What are some of the miracles of Jesus you've heard about?
  • If you could see a miracle in your life, what would it be?
  • Today we'll be learning about obedience, when is it hard to obey?
  • Why do you think obedience is important?
  • Would it surprise you to learn that Jesus obeyed his parents too?
Let's learn about a time that Jesus obeyed His mom and a miracle happened!

OUR LESSON THIS WEEK:

Find this miracle in: John 2:1-11

This is Jesus FIRST MIRACLE! He is at a wedding and they run out of wine. His mom asks Jesus to help and a miracle happens when He obeys His mom! Enjoy this fun video where Mike and Ike describe what happened and try to duplicate the miracle!

WHAT DO WE LEARN?

Illusions are often about misdirection. While the audience is looking at one thing, the performer is able to do something that otherwise would be obvious. Sometimes
when it comes to Bible stories, the reader (or audience) can make the same mistake. We can be so focused on the amazing miracle that we can miss something that otherwise would be really obvious. One thing that is missed often in this story is actually pretty fascinating. This is often told as “Jesus’ first miracle”, and it is. But when Jesus’ mom asked him to help because they had run out of wine at the wedding, Jesus’ first answer to her was, “Mom, it’s not yet my time.” Perhaps he was planning a “big” miracle as His first or was expecting his heavenly Father to have a bigger miracle in mind for the “big reveal” that He was the Messiah. But what did Jesus do? He obeyed His mom and performed His first miracle!

Read: Ephesians 6:1
Jesus obeyed His mom. It’s really that simple. Today we are learning that miracles happen when we obey. If Jesus obeyed His parents, do you think we should do? Jesus not only obeyed, but He was also honoring His mom by showing her respect.

Read: Ephesians 6:2-3
While Ephesians hadn’t been written yet (it was written by the Apostle Paul, who became a disciple after Jesus died and rose again), Jesus certainly knew the Old Testament, which

Paul was referring to. You can find the original promise to God’s people way back in the Old Testament, in Exodus 20:12: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

Jesus demonstrated this when He obeyed His mom. Many years later, the Apostle Paul reminded kids that verse is still true – God blesses kids who honor their parents, and one of the blessings is long life! Obedience is so important to God, He made it a part of honoring our parents!
Think about it: You can obey without honoring, but you can’t honor without obeying. If you want God’s blessing in your life, it starts with obedience: obeying your parents, obeying God – and doing your part. When we do our part, then we are in a place where God can step in and do His part. That’s when He will do what only He can do. And that’s when we see miracles!
