THIS WEEK'S STORY:

Learn it - Live it!
Have you ever watched someone win a trophy? Ever noticed something they usually do during their speech? They usually thank their coach, fellow players, family and sometimes even God. They know that they didn’t win alone. They had lots of help.
READ: James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
When we fail to see how others have helped us, it’s called pride. We usually don’t like prideful people because we know that they had help, and those who helped don’t like being forgotten. Can we be proud of our hard work, sacrifices and effort? Of course! The point is to acknowledge (or mention) those who helped us.
READ: Proverbs 27:2 Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.
When you have succeeded, as King Nebuchadnezzar did – people will know it. It is better for us to thank and praise others and allow others to praise us.
READ: Proverbs 16:18 Pride Comes Before a Fall
In the story of Nebuchadnezzar, he was bragging and not acknowledging God so God humbled him for many years taking away his power, position and prosperity and making him a like a beast roaming the hills of his kingdom so he would learn a powerful lesson that everything he had was a gift from God.
READ: 1 Corinthians 4:7 - everything we have is from God, so there is never any reason to boast or brag. Wisdom would tell us to make wise choices in how we act, talk and live, knowing that everything we have from our talents to our possessions come from God.

SO WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THIS STORY?

HOW DO WE LIVE IT?
We learned that it is better to allow someone else to praise us. Well, that works in reverse too! Who can you praise or compliment this week? Look for success in your family members and give them a shout out! Tell them they are amazing. Compliment Dad on his hard work, or Mom on her amazing cooking, and whatever you can think of for other family members. You’ll discover praising others feel so much better than praising yourself. And you just might earn some compliments too!
