HEY KIDS! WELCOME!

The Great Rescue!

JESUS, the First Responder!

In this series we are learning about how JESUS, the very First Responder came to Save us, Heal us, Equip us and Send us!

WEEK TWO

Dads, Moms, Kids - use this page together to review or further explore what was learned at church, or if you weren't able to get to church today, then you can learn and live it out at home! After all, the Church is wherever you are! LET'S GO!

7-1-1 Bible Emergency?

When we have an EMERGENCY, we call 9-1-1, but who do Bible Characters call? They call 7-1-1. Listen in on these Bible Emergency Calls and see if you can figure out who called for help in the Bible!

This week we learned about how JESUS was dispatched to the Tomb.

In every story, there is a part that is essential to the story. Without it, there is no story and the rest of it really doesn’t matter.

- If SUPERMAN had no superpowers, he wouldn’t be super, he’d just be a man.
- If the Flash wasn’t fast, he’d just be ordinary, right?

- If Batman/Bruce Wayne, wasn’t rich, he wouldn’t have any of those cool gadgets.

- If Mary didn’t have a little lamb, who would follow her to school and make the children laugh and play? There wouldn’t be a song to sing.

- If Mary Poppin’s didn’t have an umbrella or couldn’t sing?
- If the HULK wasn’t green or had no muscles?

- If Spiderman had no web or spidey powers?

- If Gru had no Minions?

Now, imagine this: WHAT IF JESUS HAD NEVER RISEN FROM THE DEAD?

If Jesus had never risen from the dead, He would just be another nice religious leader who said some nice religious things about being kind and loving and good.
BUT HE WOULDN’T BE GOD.

The fact that Jesus rose from the dead is the single most important thing about Jesus.
READ: 1 Corinthians 15:12-14,17-19
But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. (15-16 omitted) And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

Things to note from this passage:
• If Jesus didn’t rise again, our faith is useless. Jesus’ resurrection is the foundation that
everything else is built upon! Because He rose again, it makes everything else He taught
possible!
• If Jesus didn’t rise again, then our sins aren’t forgiven, because then Jesus didn’t pay for
them on the cross; He just died. But because He rose again, they are paid for!
• If Jesus didn’t rise again, then this life is all we have, and that is pretty sad. Jesus gives
us the HOPE of eternal life!

Last week we talked about how Jesus was the FIRST RESPONDER – how He came to rescue us from sin. He could only do this because He was God, and He was perfect, and so He could take our place. But He could only do that if He could actually take our place.
Jesus’ death was FOR US – he DIED so that WE could LIVE! He died for our sins; now our SINS are dead so we can LIVE for God! The Apostle Paul said it this way:

READ: Romans 6:5-10
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin — because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

Things to note from this passage:
• Jesus died for us so we wouldn’t have to.
• Jesus rose as a NEW PERSON!
• Our “old self” died with Jesus.
• Jesus rose again and invites us to “rise again” too as a NEW PERSON!
• Jesus can’t die again.
• Once we accept Jesus, we can’t die again either!
• Jesus died for sin, and now lives for God!
• We die to sin, and now WE live for God!
