7-1-1 Bible Emergency?
When we have an EMERGENCY, we call 9-1-1, but who do Bible Characters call? They call 7-1-1. Listen in on these Bible Emergency Calls and see if you can figure out who called for help in the Bible!
This week we learned about how JESUS was dispatched to the Upper Room.

Last week we learned about The Resurrection of Jesus. Did you know Jesus stayed on earth for over a month (40 days) before He went back to heaven? What was He busy doing?
He was visiting His disciples! He walked with some along a road, had dinner with them, and then disappeared! That’s a cool story you can read about in Luke 24.
One of the neatest stories takes place later in that chapter when Jesus appears to many of His disciples in what the Bible calls an “upper room”. The door was locked, but Jesus just “appears” among them! (v.36-43, also in John 20:19-23) He appears and says, “Peace to you.” They were afraid and thought they were seeing a ghost since they had watched Jesus die! Then He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” They still weren’t quite sure, so Jesus asked for some food. Once He was eating, they knew it was really Him. (Everyone knows ghosts don’t eat, right?)
READ: Luke 24:44-49 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
Jesus was explaining to them what we often talk about – how He had to die to pay for our sins, and that He rose again to conquer death! But He went further to say that now it will be OUR JOB to tell others about Him. That’s what it means to be WITNESSES of these things. In a court, a witness is the one who tells what they saw, heard, and what happened to them.
THE PROMISE! Then, Jesus promised that He would be sending something... or rather, Someone... to be a helper. He asked them to stay in the city until it arrived. A few days later, they would be in a room again – perhaps the same one – when that gift would arrive.
Do you know what that gift was that Jesus promised He would send? It was the Holy Spirit!
READ: Acts 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
After Jesus went back to heaven God sent the Holy Spirit! The Bible says when this happened this first time, they saw what looked like flames above the disciples’ heads! That must have looked pretty amazing – or maybe even scary! And they spoke in other tongues! In fact, they went out and started to preach about Jesus and over 3,000 people joined the brand-new church that day because they all heard the Good News in their own language as the disciples talked about Jesus. It was an amazing miracle!
