WATCH IT!

Here is the FUN video we watched in The Outpost!

Here was the MAIN POINT for this week:

The point of this lesson is simple. People tend to be selfish. We tend to ask questions only to get an answer they want, not the truth or what they need to hear.

In order to live a Godly life we not only have to ask questions, but listen to the answer. The Bible promises us the God will hear our prayers, but he never promises to give us what we want, or make things happen the way we want.

1 John 5: 14-15 says “Now this is the we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of him Him.”

The key words to take out of this are: "According to His will" and "Petition."

He promises to hear our petition, or request, but answers them in accordance to his will. He is not a cosmic gum-ball machine where every quarter gets rewarded. When we are communicating with God we have accept his answer, and also be patient to hear his answer.

The second part is we have to stop talking long enough to hear his response. Just like with the with radios we cant hear if the button is pressed. We have let go and listen. Not an easy thing to do for most of us. God has given us a one way radio to Him through prayer, we can use anytime we want and should use it all the time. However it is a two way conversation.

A third thing to understand is that we must accept His answers. Why does God sometimes say "no?"

Think about this: If you were to pray to God and ask for 1,000,000 chocolate chip cookies and God gave them to you, you would get sick! God knows this and you getting sick or hurting yourself is not in accordance with His will so He will probably say "No." You may not like the no, but it is for your own good.

OR, suppose you pray to God and ask for a Giraffe. There is nothing wrong with that. Maybe you aren't being silly, you just really LIKE giraffes and would REALLY love to work with them. God is probably not going to make a giraffe appear in your house. Your mom would freak out! However, maybe He has in His plan for you to be a vet, or a zoo keeper, or some other way that may have to so with working with giraffes. God did not say no, He may just have a different way to answer your request if you are patient.

God loves to answer prayers, but He will answer in a way that is BEST for you, and in the right time too.

SOME DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Use these questions to discuss the lesson together as a family:
  • If you had to spent $1,000,000 in ONE DAY, what would you buy?
  • Now, were those SMART purchases? Why or why not?
  • What is something you WANT that probably isn't really a good idea?
  • What is something you seriously pray for?
  • Can you think of a reason God might be saying "wait" or "not yet?"
  • Why do "waits" or "not yets" feel like "NO's"?
  • Why might God really say NO sometimes?
  • Can you think of times your parent(s) say no and explain why?
  • If you were God, what would you change about the world?
  • Why do you think God allows something to remain not-so-good that He could change?
  • Everyone pray for the person on your right about something they are waiting for.

SOME VERSES TO LOOK UP TOGETHER:

Look these verses up and discuss together as a family:
  • James 1:19
  • Ephesians 4:29
  • Proverbs 18:13

This is our THEME VERSE for the series, work on memorizing it together as a family!
